In making your own bath salts, you will find it easy, something similar to that of making dinner – but without having to slave over the hot stove! Our recipes do not use any ingredients that require the use of melting heavy oils so that is one advantage, but don’t let the sway you from those types of oils. There are many of the heavy oils that have their own special benefits as well.
To melt heavy oils for use in your bath salts, simply soften as you would soften button the stove or in the microwave, let it cool just a tad so you can work with it and then add to your bath salts as you would in any of the included recipes.
In this photograph you will see there are four different salts. These are provided so you can see the different sizes of the grains of salts. The uses of the different grains are based on personal preference, and what you want to do in the bath. The longer the bath and the ‘more’ scrubbing sensation you want the larger the bath salts should be. For shorter, fifteen-minute baths, and for dissolving fast, the smaller grains you should use in your bath salts.

- First start by gathering all the supplies you need to make your bath salts. This would be your measuring cup; your choice of salt, oils, a wood or plastic spoon, a bowl for mixing everything, your essential oils, and any other ingredients you might light to put in your bath salts at this time.

- After measuring the salt and putting it in the bowl, adding the essential oils should be your next step. Adding essential scented oils at this time will ensure that your mixture will be evenly coated, so if making a larger batch of bath salts you can ensure that the scents will be spread through the entire salt batch.
- If you are using a small batch of salt (one cup) just a few drops of essential oils are needed. If you like stronger scents or if you want the scent to become stronger when you are bathing, add more scented oils. The lesser amount of scented oils, the lighter the scent.
- In this photograph, the writer loves the scent of citrus. The red mandarin has a light yellow coloring that will mix into the salts without the notice of the coloring when it is mixed well. Notice that the writer used over twenty drops because a strong scent was desired in three cups of salt.

- In mixing the essential oils, or if you are adding food coloring notice that the coloring becomes very light. If you want to really have a dark colored bath salt, it will require a high number of food coloring drops to darken the salt. After mixing the salt well it is time to add the other types of oils you would like to be in your bath salt creation. Depending on what benefits you want your bath salts to provide, will help you decide what type of oil to use in your bath salts. Bath salts are generally used to help moisturize the body but if you have oily skin problems, there are oils to help you in controlling that problem.
