Make your own bath salts at home and What you need to get started

Only A few Steps are required to make your own bath salts. You need to have a few supplies and a little bit of basic know-how that can be found for free on this website or by getting our more detailed and comprehensive EBook witch contains over 100 tried recipes and more thorough instructions.

Support for your mind, body and soul is a task you have to take the time to pursue. In your pursuit for wonderful adventures using bath salts we have created a listing of recipes to start your adventure.

In making your own bath salts, you will find it easy, something similar to that of making dinner – but without having to slave over the hot stove! Our recipes do not use any ingredients that require the use of melting heavy oils so that is one advantage, but don’t let the sway you from those types of oils. There are many of the heavy oils that have their own special benefits as well.

To melt heavy oils for use in your bath salts, simply soften as you would soften button the stove or in the microwave, let it cool just a tad so you can work with it and then add to your bath salts as you would in any of the included recipes.

In this photograph you will see there are four different salts. These are provided so you can see the different sizes of the grains of salts. The uses of the different grains are based on personal preference, and what you want to do in the bath. The longer the bath and the ‘more’ scrubbing sensation you want the larger the bath salts should be. For shorter, fifteen-minute baths, and for dissolving fast, the smaller grains you should use in your bath salts.

- First start by gathering all the supplies you need to make your bath salts. This would be your measuring cup; your choice of salt, oils, a wood or plastic spoon, a bowl for mixing everything, your essential oils, and any other ingredients you might light to put in your bath salts at this time.

- After measuring the salt and putting it in the bowl, adding the essential oils should be your next step. Adding essential scented oils at this time will ensure that your mixture will be evenly coated, so if making a larger batch of bath salts you can ensure that the scents will be spread through the entire salt batch.

- If you are using a small batch of salt (one cup) just a few drops of essential oils are needed. If you like stronger scents or if you want the scent to become stronger when you are bathing, add more scented oils. The lesser amount of scented oils, the lighter the scent.

- In this photograph, the writer loves the scent of citrus. The red mandarin has a light yellow coloring that will mix into the salts without the notice of the coloring when it is mixed well. Notice that the writer used over twenty drops because a strong scent was desired in three cups of salt.

- In mixing the essential oils, or if you are adding food coloring notice that the coloring becomes very light. If you want to really have a dark colored bath salt, it will require a high number of food coloring drops to darken the salt. After mixing the salt well it is time to add the other types of oils you would like to be in your bath salt creation. Depending on what benefits you want your bath salts to provide, will help you decide what type of oil to use in your bath salts. Bath salts are generally used to help moisturize the body but if you have oily skin problems, there are oils to help you in controlling that problem.

Making bath salts is a something that you will find very interesting. The process really does not take long at all, and you will find that experimenting with the substitutions and changes to make the bath salts something very personal for you is going to be the fun part!

Time Needed for making bath salts!

Making your own bath salts at home does not take long at all. It does require a little time to gather all of your materials if you don’t have a supplier that you have been purchasing from, but once you have a reliable source for where to find your essential oils, your salts, and containers, you will find that keeping a supply of these on hand.

Finding the scents you life, the prices you want, and deciding if you want to purchase online or offline is going to be required. Of course, many items can be purchased from this site, so you don’t even have to search hard to find the items needed to make your own bath salts!

Making bath salts, just one type (or one scent) is going to require about half an hour of your time. The process will move quickly as you gather your supplies, place them on the table, and work through a recipe. If you are using a recipe that requires the slight melting of an oil, the time frame could be a little longer but not by much.

Save money by making bath salts

Creating your own bath salts at home is going to save you money. Homemade bath salts are going to give you a treasure you can use as often as you like. When you want a little personal time to slip into the tub, the bath salts you have on hand will make you feel revitalized and relaxed.

In creating bath salts you will have to make a few small purchases. You will need to purchase salt, essential oils, base oil (such as almond or jojoba) and the container for storing your bath salts. These are the basic materials in making your own bath salts.

The cost for one pound of salt will be less than five dollars (even less then three dollars if you purchase smaller finer salts). The costs for base oils will run from six to fifteen dollars, depending on the type and the size of the bottle you are purchasing.

Sweet almond oil costs roughly seven to eight dollars, with jojoba oil being around the same price, these are two popular oils used in making bath salts. The most expensive portion of making bath salts will be the essential oils.

A small container will cost from eight to fifteen dollars, but the essential oils will last quite a long time, as each recipe requires only a few drops of any one scent.

Containers for storing your bath salts can be free if you have something in the home already. If you purchase small containers with lids it could cost between fifty cents to five dollars each, depending on the size and the special shape of each container.

As you can see it is very inexpensive to create a very large batch of bath salts. If you were to purchase bath salts from a supplier or retailer you could pay five to fifteen dollars for just a small few ounces of salt!

Creating the perfect package to make your homemade bath salts to appear to be store bought is not difficult as you might think. To create the professional and priceless packages for your bath salts here are a few tips:

Use jars with lids that match and that fit well, when you make a purchase at a thrift store

Make tiny labels for the bottoms of the bath salts with type and date on them

Create a label on your printer that includes the special name for your bath salt

Include a tight ribbon or wrapping around the top of the container

Include a small gift tag on the container that tells exactly how to use bath salts

Make sure the container is full to the brim, making the gift look better

Never hand print on the labels you make

Always use a photo for graphics and not clip art for labels you make

Create a system for including a bag that you can wrap the bath salts instead of using wrapping paper, which can look unprofessional

Use jars that have not been used before, unless you have no trace of paper or glue on the outside of the container

The jar should not smell like any other material than the essential oils you used in making the bath salts

<!--

Salts are a deposit of nature, in water, in the soil, and nature has even accumulated salt in our bodies. Salts from water and from the soil contain nutrients and minerals similar to those that are used in our bodies for sustaining life. Without salt, our bodies would not hold water needed in reproduction of cells, for digestion and for growth among other things. Salt is a staple of our lives now and through history, and to include it in your bath does appear natural!

Natural ingredients are those that are found in nature, in a setting that has not been tampered with or added to by humans or manufacturing processes. Many types of manufactured beauty products, and manufactured spa products contain additives such as alcohols, chemicals, and colorings.

If you are allergic to any of these ingredients you may want to find some substitutions for the ingredients used in this book. Not all recipes in this book are ‘all natural’, but can be substituted using all natural ingredients by visiting your local health or herb retailer.

Some oils, and ingredients used in the recipes of this book are detailed on the packaging when you purchase from the retailer or wholesaler where you obtain your ingredients.

Using All Natural Bath Salt Ingredients

Natural ingredients can be a little more difficult to find, only because our modernized world has been manufacturing, changing and using many materials that are found naturally. In this book, we will provide you with ideas, tips, and information on how to find the best all natural ingredients for creating your own bath salts if this is a method that you prefer.

The best results of a salt bath are going to include those that are all natural for the body that does suffer skin problems, allergies and for those who consider their selves to be sensitive to certain types of ingredients that are not all natural.

Who Uses All Natural Ingredients?

Anyone who wants to experience the abilities and the benefits of bath salts without preservatives, additives or coloring will seek natural alternatives to any ingredients in their own bath salts. Putting yourself and your personal healing needs first; natural ingredients are always the best alternatives.

Finding Natural Ingredients

All natural ingredients are not going to be difficult to find. In this section we want to tell you a bit more about where and how to find those products, ingredients, and substitutions you may want to add to your own bath salts, or your own home spa creations. Substituting ingredients can lead you to create bath salts you will cherish.

Don’t forget, reading the ingredients on bottles, learning the terminology of what manufactured products / ingredients are will aid you in your quest for all natural ingredients. Never rely only on the word of the salesman in the retail store.

Yellow pages are a great start for finding all natural product retailers near you. Grabbing your local telephone directory, look under the headings that include natural therapy, natural foods, naturopaths, aromatherapy, health foods, holistic medicines, grocery, and supermarkets and under headings that include organic, supplement and wholesale.

Making telephone calls to the stores local to you will help you understand more about the products they sell instead of you running out to see what natural ingredients they carry so you save time and money in finding suppliers locally.

From the writer: I found a local health food supplier who only supplies products and ingredients that are natural under health foods in my local yellow page directory. You may also try your surrounding larger malls. Malls are known for holding a wide variety of stores with health foods and natural foods being found in these types of directories.

The advantage of a local supplier is you can read, touch, smell and investigate any product before purchase. The draw back of purchasing locally is that you have no price comparisons, and you have to take the time to visit the store.

Online directories, stores and suppliers provide you with many more choices than what you might find locally. Using your favorite search engine you can find suppliers by typing in the words, natural foods, health products, or you can type in the specific ingredient you want to purchase for a more centralized listing of findings.

For example, if you were considering purchasing scents in bulk, type in the words ‘jasmine oil scents’ and a wide variety of suppliers would be listed. Now you could search within these listings for the suppliers that sell only those that are all natural without additives.

The advantage to ordering online from a supplier is that you can compare costs, but in draw is that you can’t read the labels on products that you are considering to purchase so you must rely on the descriptions of the supplier. Ordering from online suppliers is very convenient as it saves you time in finding a particular ingredient.

Finding Natural Ingredients

What you will find is that not all products are going to be used in only making bath salts, but for a large variety of products, foods and such that we do use daily. In your search for natural ingredients you can use in your bath salts or in your other home spa needs, you will find these links will help you find a great multitude of organic and natural ingredients to choose from.

Also, note, we are not affiliated with any of the websites or companies that are included in this book. These links are provided to help you find your way to where to purchase and learn more about natural and organic ingredients for your personal use. All natural products can be purchased from

Hydrotherapy is just a part of what bath salts has to offer in the line of benefits for users. Hydrotherapy is a method of soaking, relaxing and soothing aches, pains and problems associated with the bones or the muscles of your body. While there are both hot and cold hydrotherapy methods, bath salts are most often used with heated water. The heat in the water dissolves the salts and allows the oils in the bath salts to mix in the water better so it can evenly treat your body parts that are soaking in the water.

Immersing your entire body in a tub of water or even partially submersing your body in a tub of water eases spasms, pains, and treats many types of ailments. Baths can help you sleep giving you a relaxed feeling, while for other people, a bath can add the benefits of feeling very clean, alive and fresh.

Bathing is more than for cleansing the body; it is also used for cleansing the mind, relaxing the body, treating disease, ailments and stress or anxiety. Bathing brings relief for not only bone and muscle problems, but also for skin related conditions, for menstrual pains, and for discomforts that you have not been able to find relief for using any other method.

Bathing in large tubs of water ‘makes’ you take the time to enjoy the water and to feel the water over your body. Very few people can get in a tub for just three minutes and then jump out. The act of bathing with salts will take you to the point where you force yourself to slow down and enjoy life a little more.

Where to Purchase Bath Salt Storage Containers

Containers for your bath salts are going to be easier to find than you might think. Do you have a special shape, color, or perhaps colorless glass type jar that you really like or you find special? Seek these types of containers for storing your bath salts.

Bath salts can be stored in any type of container plastic or glass, large or small, shaped; round or even square the choice is yours.

Walking to your local thrift store you will find all types of containers at a very low price. These could be the local dollar stores or similar type stores. Jars and containers range from twenty-five cents each to two dollars each.

If you like, you could head out to the local Goodwill or Salvation Army store and find a treasured aisle of glass and plastic containers to choose from for just pennies on the dollar. You can clean these containers, and then decorate and in no time at all you are on the way to preparing for making your home made bath salts.

Remember purchasing bath salt containers from either source, you can reuse them as often as you are going to make your bath salts, so even if you spend a little more on that special container you want to display it will all be worth it.

Online you can purchase glass or plastic containers through a variety of auctions, websites, and wholesalers. If you plan to create and make your own bath salts for resale you will want to find where to purchase containers that are not only stylish but affordable as well.

Here are just a few of the types of containers you can choose from. Remember you can spend as little as or as much as you like on the containers of your choice, but be sure that your choice includes one that seals securely. We are not affiliated with any of the following websites, but merrily thought you would be interested in seeing a wide variety of types of containers you can choose.

Storing Salts

If you purchase a large amount of salts, of any type, in bulk you will need a place to store it. The best storing methods are in a sealed glassed container. The glass is going to prevent anything from getting to the salt, and the sealed tight lid on the container is not going to allow any amount of moisture to get into the salt.

Storing salts is important because when moisture is added to the salt the salt will get clumpy and will become hard almost impossible to use. Some of the larger, coarser salts do not react in the same nature as the smaller finer salts will, but with enough moisture or humidity in the air, the salt will become hard to work with.

You shouldn’t store salt in a container that has had coffee, onions, or chemicals that smell in it. The salt will absorb the smells of what it is in or stored with. Taking a bath with your bath salts and finding an onion smell coming from the hot water is not going to be appealing at all.

A sealed container that is cleaned and completely dry before storing your salt in it is going to be the best situation for storing bath salts. The container could be glass, or plastic, but you should avoid storing your salts in a metal container. Salt stored in a metal container is going to take on a smell of the metal. While you may not notice it at first, salt stored in a metal container will smell after a period so choose plastic or glass for the best results.

Storing salts that you are going to use to make bath salts with at a later date should be stored in a cool, dry place perhaps like your pantry, in the towel cupboard or on the shelving under a sink in the kitchen or in the bathroom.

Storing Salts as Décor

One of the great things about making your own bath salts is that you can use the excess that you make to match your home décor. Storing bath salts in large glass or small glass containers you can display them through the home in a great number of places. You can store your colored or plain bath salts in clear glass or in colored glass containers. Adding a bow or a piece of cloth of your choice, and the bath salts becomes a great addition to your bathroom.

Imagine if you will, using a coloring in your bath salts, or perhaps you have added a bubble bath coloring to your bath salts. The colors inside of the glass are going to make a difference in your bathroom as it shows through the glass.

And then perhaps you have a theme in your bathroom, you could match that theme, putting hearts, vines, or ribbons on the jars for showing off your bath salt treasures in the bathroom. When you have a chance to get in the tub, your bath salts will be right there on hand and ready for use.

Where to Store Bath Salts

The best place to store your prepared bath salts will be near the tub or shower! If you have a shelf that is handy right near the tub you will find you will use your bath salts more often. If you were to store your bath salts in the bedroom or in the hallway closet you might not be able to get out there and ‘get’ the bath salts when you want them most.

Sometimes the impulse to draw a bath and then reach for the salts will not leave you time to get out in the hall or into the pantry where you have bath salts, but when you have them handy and in the bathroom you are likely to use and enjoy them much more.

Buying salts to make your own bath salts at home requires you to get to the store and purchase some of the salts, oils, scents and jars for making bath salts. Depending on how much of the bath salts you want to make right now will determine how much ingredients and materials you have to purchase right now. Bulk doesn’t mean you have to purchase a large amount of salt, just the amount that you want!

Buying Salts In Bulk

If you purchase salts in bulk (loosely) you can find a better savings than if you were to purchase salts in a prepackaged container. When you purchase bulk salts you will scoop them out of a barrel or container and put it into a baggie of some type to bring home to work with.

Buying Salts Online

You can find salts of all types online, in health food stores, in local specialty stores, and in mail order catalogs where herbs and health foods are sold. Prepackaged salts are sold in health food stores and in some pharmacies but they can be more expensive.

One pound of fine unprocessed salt could be as low as sixty-nine cents to two dollars when purchasing in bulk. Sea salt in the larger coarser form could range from three dollars to six dollars when purchasing it in bulk. When buying salts in packages the cost will be more because of the care taken to actually package the materials.

Hawaiian Sea Salt

Hawaiian sea salt is a salt high in iron oxide. This type of salt is high in iron oxide because of the high amount of volcanic activities that occur on the islands. This salt is a reddish pink color and is used as bath salts, cooking salts, and as an additive in cleaning products. This salt is available in fine grains to very coarse grains that can be used for stimulating the skin.

This fine salt is white, not as small grained as table salt but very fine compared to the coarse salts that are used for scrubbing. This type of bath salt is one used for adding to your water for softening your skin, and relaxing your body by soaking in the hot water.
